It is amazing how much we gloss over how finely tuned our planet is for human existence. The phenomenal amount of astrophysical and other scientific factors, measurements and parameters that aligned precisely for human life to exist on Earth for even a short period of time is astounding.
First, we are in the right galaxy with the right density of stars and planets. If it was any denser, collisions and eruptions would disrupt our solar orbit. If too sparse, our sun wouldn’t have formed at all. Then there is our relationship with the Sun, our parent star. Our distance from it and our rotation period around it is perfect. If it were any longer, temperature differences would be too great, and if it were any shorter, atmospheric wind speeds would be too great to allow for existence.
Air pressure, water vapour levels, the thickness of our Earth’s crust and the percentage of vital gases within our atmosphere are precisely right for life to exist on Earth. Even our global distribution of continents is ideal. If the continents were too concentrated in one area or too much in the southern hemisphere, seasonal differences would be too severe for advanced life.
We are not here by chance, any more than a gourmet meal appears out of nowhere. There is a grand design that has caused us to exist, and a reason for the existence of every one of us. Nothing is random.
We are not random. We are not a number, a stat, an excess or a happenstance. There is a plan at play.
Any time we wake up living like there is no grand plan around our arrival and existence on Earth, an opportunity to make an impact and find deep fulfilment is missed. These missed opportunities are the greatest tragedy – that a person will be born, live and die without ever contributing something unique to the world in even the smallest way. Since, no two souls are the same, it is criminal – a waste of unique talent that cannot be replicated or reproduced even with the highest levels of mimicry, cloning or replication.
The unique calling around a message, around a journey and around a quest stands at the heart of the human struggle for greatness. Those who apprehend and mine it surge ahead of others in an eye’s blink, becoming an amazement and wonder to others who remain reserved, fearful or oblivious about pursuing where their calling leads.
If you are among the rare former who have apprehended their calling, congratulations! If you are among the vast latter who are still waiting for stars to align, this is your reminder to begin making the right and bold choices that lead toward your calling rather than away from it.
If you have any doubts, step out this evening and look at the night sky. Each star on the horizon stands as a testament and messenger that God didn’t set all this up by chance. It is fine-tuned on purpose. As are you.
