Intentional Design

You sit at your desk, sketching ideas for your next product launch or service offering. Market research tabs open on your browser. You are nodding off on the Competitor analysis spreadsheets in front of you. You are pensive, the Business needs this upcoming product to be a success. You cross check every potential risk and ask critical questions around your go-to-market plans. But wait, have you asked yourself the deeper question? How will Jesus find expression through this innovation? How Can What Christ values and the opportunities for Spirit-led transformation be subtly weaved into this service? Every innovation you’re developing has the potential to be more than just a solution to a market need—it can be a vehicle that draws people toward divine values.

When Jesus talked about being salt and light, he was taking Kingdom strategy. He wasn’t just speaking to pastors and missionaries. He was speaking to marketplace innovators like you who can flavor entire industries with divine principles. The innovation you’re sketching right now can be intentionally designed to nudge its users toward truth, beauty, justice, generosity—values that ultimately point to their Creator.

Your business creations aren’t just products or services either. They’re extensions of your witness in the marketplace – whether, its a new app feature, a retail experience, a new addition to the Juice processing line, a new makeup line, a new way of running the front desk or a new protocol to deliver a procedure for patients. Your app can be designed to discourage dopamine-fueled addiction. The post patient care can choose a path that makes for less medication-dependency. Your plan, submitted to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit has the power to restore and bring another person within view of Christ.

Again, this is kingdom strategy. Every day, Satan is inspiring oblivious entrepreneurs to do the exact opposite – designing products that foster anti-Christian values. You can provide a God-lit option to the darkness.

I encourage you to go beyond creating products and services that merely compete in the marketplace. Start designing innovations that redeem it. Your business offering isn’t just competing for market share—it’s contending for human hearts. The Christian entrepreneur will ask “Will this sell?” but he should also “Will this serve? Will this heal? Will this restore? Will this reflect?”

You’ve been given creative capacity for such a time as this. Every feature you build, every policy you implement, every customer experience you craft is an opportunity to intentionally design pathways that lead toward kingdom values. Start designing intentionally.
